Like any SMT or Persona game, Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance has a few confusing status ailments, so let me explain them all for you. This will ensure that you know what you’ve been afflicted by and what you’re afflicting onto enemies.
Status ailments in SMTV: Vengeance are debuffs that can negatively affect your party or your enemies. There are eight status ailments in total, all from the original SMTV, and nothing new with the Canon of Vengeance storyline. Here’s how all status ailments work in Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance.
Status Ailment | Effect | Methods |
---|---|---|
Charm | Will attack allies or heal enemies. Will also ignore orders. | Accursed Poison, Frenzied Chomp, Frolic, Marin Karin, Sexy Dance. |
Confusion | Will act on their own volition and may attack allies. | Accursed Poison, Frenzied Chomp, Madness Needle, Pulinpa, Tentarafoo. |
Mirage | Decreases attack hit rate and may hit a non-specified target. | Accursed Poison, Dustoma, Fogna, Mirage Shot, Mist Rush, Slumber Vortex. |
Mud | Removes one Press Turn icon before the party member can act. Cannot be healed. | Babylon Curse. |
Poison | Take damage at the end of your turn. | Accursed Poison, Blight, Frenzied Chomp, Poisma, Profaned Land, Toxic Breath, Toxic Cloud, Toxic Spray, Toxic Sting. |
Seal | Cannot cast any skills besides a normal attack. | Accursed Poison, Dark Sword, Dreadful Gleam, Makajama, Makajamaon, Violent Rage. |
Shroud | Reduces MP before performing an action. Cannot be healed. | Mesektet’s Path. |
Sleep | Cannot perform actions and cannot evade. Will end once you take damage. | Accursed Poison, Dormina, Dream Needle, Lullaby, Slumber Vortex, Twilight Wave. |
Unless stated otherwise, the majority of these status ailments can be cured using consumables such as Amrita Soda or Amrita Shower. You can also cast skills to heal status ailments like Patra and Diamrita. Any status ailments inflicted on party members will also wear off once the battle ends.
There are certain status ailments that you cannot heal using items or skills, such as Mud and Shroud. Then there’s Sleep, which you can cure by taking damage, which wakes you up. To inflict status ailments or to cure them you’ll typically require enough MP, but you also may struggle to recover MP during your playthrough.
