Dragon Quest 3 Remake: How To Get The Echo Flute

There are lots of areas in Dragon Quest 3 Remake you simply don't have to go. The game will give you some rough guidance, but it will rarely through a quest marker in your face that tells you exactly where to go. That makes it great to explore, and much easier to get lost.

It also makes collecting the many orbs you need a rather lengthy task, though you can get some assistance here - the Echo Flute. This wonderful item will have you gathering up those multi-coloured orbs in no time. You just have to find it first.

Where To Find Fifer's Spire

The Echo Flute itself is located in Fifer's Spire, which is itself located on a whole continent you simply never have to go to. It's not obscenely missable by any means, there's just no point in the story where you're actually required to go near it.

Fifer's Spire is found to the westof the small village of Persistence, which is found right in the middle of the large eastern continent. You know, the one that looks like North America. Fifer's Spire is found quite near the western coastline, with the Echo Flute hidden at its centre.

Navigating Fifer's Spire

Fifer's Spire is made up of five floors, plus the entrance area. There's nothing much going on in the entrance area, so you can head right through into the first floor area. This is where the real dungeon begins.

You will need the Thief's Key to enter Fifer's Spire, though it's not actually possible to reach here without getting it anyway.

On the first floor, you can choose to go left or right, though they both lead to the same destination, so take whichever you want. This will lead you to a small entrance at the north into the center of the area. You must then travel left or right again to enter into the centremost section of the floor, where the set of four stairs will be.

Three of these staircases will lead to treasure, while one of them will lead to a higher floor. Take the lower right staircase to the second floor, then follow this path to reach the staircase to the 3rd floor.

On the third floor, you will see from the map that there are four other corners to this floor. You can't reach them right now, so take the stairs upwards to the fourth floor. And mind you don't fall off the edge.

From the fourth floor, you can reach multiple staircases that reach downwards back to the third floor, to each of the corners you couldn't previously reach. These all lead to various treasures, with the upper right staircase the only one bringing you to the fifth floor. Take this one now.

You are now at the very tip of Fifer's Spire, though with the Echo Flute still nowhere in sight. Ah, but it was actually on the third floor, at the very centre of the floor. So how do you reach that from here? Well if you've already made your way through the Tower of Transcendence, then you might have an idea - tactical falling.

Make your way along the rope walkways until you reach the central square of ropes. Walk towards the center on any of these and you will fall back down to the third floor, right onto that central platform. There are four treasure chests here, though the Echo Flute is found in top left one.

Use the D-pad when walking along the ropes so any accidental inputs don't send you hurtling back to the second floor.

Every Optional Item In Fifer's Spire

Dragon Quest 3 Remake: How To Get The Echo Flute

While the Echo Flute might be the main draw of Fifer's Spire, there are some genuinely great items hidden throughout, especially if you come here early. With no major boss to worry about, you could easily use the Thief ability, Padfoot, to speed through the dungeon without getting into any battles.

Directions

Doh-Hican 1F The upper left of the inner ring.
Iron Claws 2F The upper right section accessed by the lower left stairs.
Edged Boomerang 2F The lower right section accessed by the upper left stairs.
Hen's Tooth 3F The lower right section accessed by the southern staircase on the fourth floor.
Cannibox (Monster) 3F On the central platform after dropping from the fifth floor.
Mini Medal 3F Central platform, lower left chest.
Echo Flute 3F Central platform, upper left chest.
Thief's Turban 3F Central platform, upper right chest.
Agility Gilet 3F Central platform, lower right chest.
Seed Of Defence 5F The south-west platform touching the southern wall.
Swallowtail 5F The south-west platform touching the western wall.

The Swallowtail and Agility Gilet are the real treasures here. The former is a Boomerang that deals wind damage, while the latter gives a decent defence boost and a massive Agility bonus that can carry you through much of the game. Prioritise these items over all others.

How Does The Echo Flute Work?

Dragon Quest 3 Remake: How To Get The Echo Flute

You have the Echo Flute now, great! But how does it actually work? Well depending on when you actually got it, it might not work at all.

The purpose of the Echo Flute is to make you aware of any Orbs that might be nearby. It functions similarly to a Monster Wrangler's Animal Instinct ability, telling you when you're near the location of many of the six orbs. That means once you've gathered up all the Orbs, the Echo Flute is functionally useless.

There is one Orb that the Echo Flute does not work on, however, and that is the Yellow Orb. Hinted at by a man in the shrine at Lanson, the Yellow Orb is constantly moving hands, rather than in a pre-set location in the world. This means you have to find it completely by yourself without the assistance of the Echo Flute.

Because of all that, try to seek out the Echo Flute as early as you can so that you can actually get use out of it. And if you've already gathered up all the Orbs, well at least you got some cool new items to play around with.
