The sequel "Titan Quest II" (PC / PS5 / Xbox Series |S). The live demo was shown for the first time at the THQ Nordic booth at gamescom 2024, so I went to check it out.

. In the setting of the story, the goddess of retribution
Nemesis
has begun to go out of control for some reason, corrupting the fate of people and gods, and severely punishing those who try to oppose them. The story revolves around the protagonist, who washes up on a sandy beach on an island somewhere in the Greek world, and travels to various worlds in search of Nemesis' whereabouts in order to change his own destiny.
When it comes to action RPGs, many of them are set in a terrifying dark fantasy world, but the Titan Quest series is characterized by its depiction of a Mediterranean climate that feels like it has been washed by bright sunlight. In the early stages, an original fantasy world unfolds, filled with sandy beaches and rock surfaces that even feel the glare of sunlight, ancient marble architecture, and shrubs spread across the dry land.
Of course, just like the previous work, monsters based on divine beasts such as Ichitians, centaurs, satyrs, harpies, sirens, and griffons, as well as giant boss characters, will also appear.

"Titan Quest II" also inherits the unique system of combining two masteries to create different synergistic effects, which create character classes. In this demo, we will combine
``Warfare'' and ``Storm'' to fight with freezing magic and short-range attacks, a combination that was called
``Thane''
in the previous work. I was able to see him play.
The UI has changed a lot from the previous game, and it was difficult to distinguish between inherited parts and new elements. It was confirmed that each skill has a "modifier"
, and active skills can be improved in 5 stages, and passive skills can be improved in 3 stages.
Unique skill points are provided for the growth of passive skills, and it seems that the situation where you are forced to save points for expensive passive skills, which was common in the previous game, has been avoided.
The mobs are also reminiscent of the previous game, and in the early stages introduced in this demo, there were about 3 to 5 Ichitians and clubs hanging out along the road in groups. The game developer who introduced us to the demo reminds us that ``There are no scenes in this game where countless monsters attack you.'' |
On the other hand, the AI aspect has become more diverse, with
enemy characters launching group attacks
, and Ichitian throwing a net to keep players from moving. If there are leader units in the mix, you need to be careful as you will likely receive more damage if you get stuck. However, the number of evasive moves per battle is limited to two, so it seems interesting to make instantaneous decisions about how to fight each enemy group.
The early access version of "Titan Quest II", which is scheduled to be released this winter, will allow you to enjoy about 12 hours of gameplay. The worldview and unique class system clearly differentiate it from other action RPGs, such as | ``Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred''
and
``Path of Exile II''
There is no doubt that it will attract attention even in the action RPG genre, which is at the top of the list.
