YouTube tests new AI function for live streams and other features

YouTube is constantly testing new functions to optimize the user experience. An AI-powered live chat summary has been in the test phase since June 13, 2024. This function is intended to enable viewers to get a quicker overview of active discussions in livestreams without having to scroll endlessly through the chat.
According to YouTube, only a small percentage of English-speaking livestream viewers will have access to the test phase. Those who are allowed to try out the AI function will see a banner in the live chat indicating the availability of the summaries. Feedback can be given via the three-point menu in the live chat.
Further YouTube functions in the test phase
Since June 13, YouTube has also been testing channel QR codes, which are intended to provide a convenient method of sharing channels without long links. The video platform is also experimenting with its parent company's image recognition. Google Lens enables a visual search on YouTube, allowing users to search for video content based on images.
YouTube has been testing user-generated effects for short videos since June 11. This feature is intended to enable creators to create their own video effects, which can then be used by all users in their shorts. Since 2019, YouTube has been regularly conducting such tests, which are announced on the overview page for test functions and experiments.
