World\'s first 8 TB SD card and 16 TB external SSD announced by Western Digital

With most devices offering expandable storage, Western Digital continues to set the standard for storage offerings in consumer devices. The announced devices are the SanDisk 8 TB SDUC UHS-I SD card and 16 TB SanDisk Desk Drive external SSD with the former featuring the Secure Digital Ultra Capacity standard (SDUC). The SanDisk 8 TB SDUC UHS-I SD card will support a maximum speed of 100MB/s and best suits most consumer devices. Devices like the upcoming DJI Neo may also benefit from the SanDisk 4 TB MicroSD announced alongside the two other models. However, no further details on the release date or price were given in the announcement.
Currently, the SanDisk 1 TB Extreme PRO SDXC UHS-I priced at $139 on Amazon is the best reference for the potential price of the 8 TB model. Despite the normal $150 price tag, the SanDisk 1 TB Extreme PRO SDXC UHS-I is a popular choice for professional photographers and videographers who require large storage capacity as a part of their workflow. Suppose the SanDisk 8 TB SDUC UHS-I SD card can deliver the same performance and reliability upon release. In that case, users stand to gain 8x the time-saving benefits of having massive storage capabilities at their disposal.
