The off-roading-focused YouTube channel, named 'Wild Horses Off-Road', recently took a dual-motor Tesla Cybertruck beyond the typical urban environment, to an off-roading trail with obstacles that could give even a dedicated off-roading vehicle a tough time. The whole point of this exercise was to simply answer the pressing question - can the Tesla Cybertruck perform off-road?
The whole ordeal began with a steep learning curve for the presenter, who had self-admittedly never driven an EV before and was more accustomed to traditional off-roaders such as the Ford Bronco. That being said, it did not take long for the presenter to get acclimated to the futuristic Cybertruck, and even praised some of its aspects, as we shall see later.
The Cybertruck's regenerative braking system in particular was well appreciated, allowing the vehicle to slow down significantly when going downhill, allowing for precise control in the challenging trail - all while harvesting energy.
Soon, as the trail progressed, the Cybertruck approached its first major obstacle - a particularly notorious section intended to test a vehicle's articulation and ground clearance. The electric pickup did undergo some initial hesitation, but ultimately managed to navigate the rutted terrain rather effortlessly.
The presenter did seem pretty impressed with the Cybertruck's performance, especially its ability to adapt to the extremely uneven terrain considering its sheer size and weight. As pointed out in the video comments, the Cybertruck was in the 'high' suspension mode and not in the maximum 'very high', the latter of which might've significantly improved the Cybertruck's ground clearance, but may have adversely affected articulation and thereby traction.
However, the Cybertruck's tribulations were far from over. Despite the intensified challenges, the pickup navigated the terrain with relative ease, mostly thanks to its locking differentials which was made possible after a software update.
4Soon after, as the Cybertruck eventually arrived near the end of the trail, it faced its most rugged terrain yet, and there was initially a doubt whether the pickup truck would even be able to complete this section. However, the Cybertruck pushed on, and after some serious 'wheel in the air' action, did ultimately succeed in conquering this absurdly challenging section.
Overall, theTesla Cybertruckdid admirably well in this challenging off-road test, proving its might as a worthy pick-up truck. The same cannot be said regarding its towing range, however, as we witnessedseveral instancesof the Cybertruck's efficiency dropping to a third when towing heavy loads, making long-distance towing an absolute nightmare. Nevertheless, theCybertruck is undoubtedly a powerful truckand more than capable of handling almost any terrain thrown at it. Would you be better off off-roading with a Bronco? Sure, but the Cybertruck did better than most would expect - and that is commendable.
