Sony unveils MDR-M1 professional headphones with ultra-wide frequency response for use in audio recording, mixing, and mastering

Sony has unveiled the MDR-M1 professional headphones with an ultra-wide frequency response for use in audio recording, mixing, and mastering. Professionals in the audio industry were consulted to create a tuned design that is capable of acting as a reference source similar to studio monitors. The closed-ear headphones enable audio engineers to hear the nuances of their music work.

The headphones use 40 mm drivers designed for high-resolution, precise audio work. The soft outer ring design with a more rigid center enables the drivers to reproduce sound accurately from 5 Hz to 80 kHz with a sensitivity of 102 dB/mW, while a tuned port helps ensure tight bass response.

The soft padding allows users to enjoy hours of comfortable wear while providing high-noise isolation from the surrounding environment, allowing audio engineers to work on music away from traditional recording rooms. The noise isolation also allows singers to monitor their own voices clearly during recordings.

The MDR-M1 weighs 7.6 ounces (216 g). A 3.5 mm to 6.3 mm (1/4") stereo jack adapter is included along with 4.9 feet (1.5 m) and 8.2 feet (2.5 m) cables.

The Sony MDR-M1 professional reference headphones have an MSRP of $249.99. The headphones will be released on October 7, 2024, and are available for preorder on Amazon. Readers with the cash can pair the MDR-M1 with Sony's best digital audio player, also available on Amazon, to enjoy their mastered music.
