Samsung Semiconductor unveiled three new camera sensors for smartphones today, led by the ISOCELL HP9. This is a 200-megapixel sensor in 1/1.4 inch format. This results in a pixel size of 0.56 μm, but Samsung's "Tetra²Pixel Technology" allows a total of 16 pixels to be combined into a single 2.24 μm pixel to output better 12 MP photos in low light.
Samsung claims 12 percent higher light sensitivity and 10 percent faster autofocus compared to the previous generation. It is interesting to note that the sensor is being marketed primarily for telephoto cameras, as the growing camera modules should provide sufficient space to combine the 1/1.4-inch sensor with a triple zoom lens. In conjunction with Samsung's fourfold in-sensor zoom, twelvefold hybrid zoom with high image quality should be possible. The sensor can record 8K videos at 30 fps or 4K slow motion at 120 frames per second.

The sensor is said to have particularly low pixel crosstalk, allowing more precise images to be recorded. The dual-pixel autofocus is said to be particularly fast and precise, the light sensitivity has been improved and this sensor also supports in-sensor zoom. The most significant improvement, however, is that power consumption has been reduced by 29 percent in preview mode and by as much as 34 percent in 4K video recording.
Finally, Samsung presents the ISOCELL JN5, a smaller 1/2.76-inch sensor with a resolution of 50 megapixels said to be perfect for ultra-wide-angle cameras and telephoto cameras with a longer focal length thanks to its smaller format. Samsung advertises enormously fast Super Quad Phase Detection (Super QPD) autofocus and Dual Gain for a greater dynamic range.
