RPCS3, the popular PlayStation 3 emulator for PC, has received a new update. It primarily brings performance optimization for the lower-end CPUs. The team behind promises "great" gains and has showcased a comparison of two games running on the latest v0.0.32-16614and an older version.

Demon's Soul was showcased to play with basically double the FPS compared to before. More specifically, the PS3 game jumped from 37.98 FPS to 76.36 FPS in the new version of the emulator. The next game in the comparison, Persona 5, didn't see a huge improvement, but it was shown to run at 30 FPS, which should make the game more playable.

Worth noting that the team showcased the comparison with a CPU featuring four cores and four threads. There's no mention of what exact processor was used, but the fact that the team refers to it as a "low-end" CPU means that it's likely an old model.

After the update for the PS3 emulator went live, a couple of users tried it with a bit more capable CPU, such as the Ryzen 7 7700X(curr. $277.72 on Amazon). Twisted Metal on that CPU with 8 cores and 16 threads ran at a steady 30 FPS, which means the update may have optimized performance on higher-end processors too. The same processor was also shown to run Armored Core Verdict Day with nearly 60 FPS.
