Retroid Pocket 5 aims to tempt retro gaming handheld fans with classic colour combos and DIY translucent back shells

Retroid continues to drip feed information about its upcoming gaming handheld releases. Initially, the company outlined the Pocket Mini, which appears to be a rival to Anbernic's RG40XX H (curr. $89.99 on Amazon). While plenty of unknowns remain about that device, Retroid has turned towards the successor of last year's Pocket 4 and Pocket 4 Pro.

So far, the company has confirmed that the Pocket 5 will eventually arrive sporting an OLED display that not only measures 5.5-inches across but also outputs at 1080p. In other words, the device will line up against the AYANEO Pocket Air in this regard, albeit with an arguably more premium design. Until now, it had only showcased one colour option that had blue accents.

According to Retroid, these accents are actually customisable RGB lights. Additionally, it has revealed that it will sell the Pocket 5 in four colours, evidence of which we have embedded above and below. Although Retroid did not provide any other details about these colour options in its X (formerly Twitter) post, it subsequently clarified that it drew inspiration from Nintendo's GameCube and Sega's Saturn consoles.

Added to that, it has confirmed that it will sell at least four translucent back shells, should anyone like to customise their Pocket 5 further. Currently, Retroid hopes to reveal all remaining details about the Pocket 5 next week. The same applies to the Pocket Mini too; it is unclear whether this applies to pricing and availability, though.
