Qualcomm promises Snapdragon X series PCs at as low as 0 for 2025

Qualcomm's Snapdragon X series chipset offers many benefits, including better battery life than some of its competitors. However, these chips come with some caveats, such as relatively limited compatibility. But if you're interested in getting into the Windows on ARM bandwagon, you will need to pay at least $900 for the Dev Kit mini PC or $999 for the base Microsoft Surface Copilot PC (available on Amazon).

Qualcomm now says that the pricing will be much better next year. More specifically, the company promises that it will be possible to purchase a Snapdragon X system for as low as $700 in 2025. Interestingly, Qualcomm says that this lower price margin won't be "compromising NPU performance." That means the affordable options will be capable of handling all the on-device AI tasks.

This lower price target information was revealed by Cristiano Amon, the current Qualcomm CEO and president, at the company's Q3 2024 earnings call. Worth noting that Amon didn't specifically say whether the cheaper tag would be for laptops, so the lower $700 target price tag could be for a new Dev Kit.

When it comes to how the first Snapdragon X Plus and X Elitelaptops are doing, Qualcomm says that it's "too early" to tell, but Amon says that some of the models are already sold out. He also mentions that the company expects its PC business to be "slow and steady," but it will be the "next biggest driver of diversification" for Qualcomm.
