Porsche Taycan front brake issue results in massive global recall

Porsche has recalled all Taycan EVs globally after an issue with the front brake hoses was discovered. The brake hoses on the front right/left axle could reportedly crack or get torn resulting in brake fluid leakage and subsequent reduction of braking power. This is the second recall for the Porsche Taycan in 2024 as the company previously issued a recall for a small number of cars in May due to the risk of fire resulting from a short circuit in the battery.

Fortunately, the problem is apparently not widespread and allegedly affects less than 1% of the cars. According to Kevin Giek, Porsche’s Taycan project manager, the issue only occurs in “some special cases”. However, the company has decided to recall all Porsche Taycan cars sold to date, including the newest 2025 model. Since the launch of the first-gen Taycan, Porsche’s premier EV has been a massive success with sales totaling more than 150,000. So, this is a big undertaking.

According to AutoCar, affected cars will flash a dashboard warning light to notify owners of the issue. However, customers shouldn’t have any problem driving their cars to the dealership if the warning light is not red. In the case of a red light, it is advised not to drive the car and contact Porsche regarding the issue.

Finally, Porsche will inform Taycan owners of the recall, after which customers can get the front hoses replaced within a few hours free of charge from their dealership. To address the issue, the company has reportedly “redesigned the hoses with new length, braking points and a new kinematic.” Once installed, the new hoses seemingly fix the problem for good.
