Despite not being unveiled at Gamescom 2024, the Sony PlayStation 5 Pro was an 'open secret' at the conference and multiple developers had knowledge about the console. A new leak 4channel (one of the internet's most notorious image boards from the yesteryears) now sheds light on its tentative release date and price. Now, one would be right to dismiss anything posted there as fact, but there have been instances where accurate information has shown up on the website, and this seems to be one of them.
The anonymous poster (archived version) says Sony will reveal the PlayStation 5 Pro in two flavours like the base console. The digital PlayStation 5 Pro will cost $599 and a regular version (with a disk drive) will set you back by $699. Furthermore, it will be unceremoniously announced on September 9 via a blog post and hit shelves on December 6. If you have one of Sony's PS5 external disk drive lying around, you can connect it to your PlayStation 5 Pro, pair it, and start using it right away, like you could with the PlayStation 5 Slim.
Lastly, the rumour confirms the PlayStation 5 Pro will not arrive with 2 TB NVMe SSD, debunking an earlier report that said so. The actual console looks a lot like the renders showed off by Bilibilkun yesterday, with many likening it to an Adidas logo. It is unclear if Sony will launch any games with the PlayStation 5 Pro, but we can expect existing ones to get patches that will allow developers to run their titles at 4K 120 FPS to earn the coveted 'PlayStation 5 Pro Enhanced' accolade.
