Pico 4 Ultra officially revealed with Meta Quest 3 rivalling hardware

Pico has finally revealed a new Meta Quest competitor, almost two years after presenting the Pico 4. Contrary to pre-release rumours, Pico's new headset is not the Pico 4S. Instead, the company has decided to call its latest virtual reality (VR) product the Pico 4 Ultra on account of its superior hardware compared to the existing Pico 4.
In short, Pico has positioned the Pico 4 Ultra as a direct competitor to the Meta Quest 3 (curr. $499.99 on Amazon). On the one hand, Pico has installed Qualcomm Snapdragon XR Gen 2 chipset, as well as 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. On the other hand, the bundled controllers feature built-in motion sensors and lack any visible tracking rings.
Moreover, the Pico 4 Ultra contains a pair of 2.56-inch displays that output at 2,160 x 2,160 pixels per eye, 90 Hz and with a 105° × 105° field of view (FoV) and 20.6 pixels per degree (PPD). Also, Pico has integrated a 21.9 Wh (5,700 mAh) battery that supports 45 W charging, plus stereo speakers and four microphones.
Furthermore, the headset runs an Android-based OS, through which it can mirror a paired smartphone and a PC simultaneously. On top of that, Pico leverages a pair of 32 MP cameras for full-colour passthrough. On top of that, the new VR headset can record 3D videos, albeit at 2,048 x 1,536 pixels and 60 Hz. Unfortunately, Pico has not confirmed international availability yet. For now at least, the Pico 4 Ultra is exclusive to China, where it retails for CNY 4,299 (~$603).
