The successor to the current latest version of Android is currently touted by some as even more of a significant upgrade than iOS 18. It is projected to confer advanced features such as compatibility with near-field charging, even finer brightness control and, of course, lots of Google-flavored AI.
OnePlus fans can now test some of them out for themselves with the new Android 15 Beta 2 for the OnePlus 12 and Open. It is available to install onto units of the device bought in either the European Union, United States or India - however, it is not recommended as an update for every user of those smartphones out there.
The OEM has cautioned that the Beta is best suited to those with experience in, or at least extreme interest in, Android development, at it is far from stable in its second iteration. For example, OnePlus notes that some aspects of hardware such as the camera and proximity sensors on the eligible devices are likely to freeze or malfunction under certain conditions.
Therefore, the beta might render a device unsuitable as a daily driver until it is updated sufficiently or rolled back - something potentially particularly inconvenient one of OnePlus' most premium and expensive smartphones.
Then again, if you are prepared to risk that in order to get at Android 15 in advance, the 12 is currently available starting at$799 on Amazon.
