As we're closing toward the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 launch, manufacturers are getting new smartphones with an overclocked version of Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 ready. Dubbed the "leading version," it's essentially the same SoC that powers the Samsung Galaxy S24 series (256 GB S24 Ultra curr. $1,199.99 on Amazon).
Samsung calls it Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy, but now Chinese manufacturers have started to use this higher-clocked SoC. Nubia has previously teased the launch of its gaming-focused RedMagic 9S Pro with the overclocked chipset, and now, it's teasing a new Z-series smartphone.
The official teasers don't share much information about the phone, and Nubia didn't even say what the phone will be called. But, according to rumors, the new phone with overclocked Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will launch as Nubia Z60S Ultra, and like the non-S smartphone, it is said to equip a "flagship" camera setup.
In addition, the upcoming phone is rumored to feature a 1.5K screen with an under-display camera, similar to what we've seen in the Nubia Z60 Ultra. There will also be a limited edition variant at launch, which could be identical to the Starry Night edition of the non-S smartphone.
As for the overclocked Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in the RedMagic 9S Pro, it will reportedly have a CPU clock speed of 3.4 GHz and a GPU frequency of 1 GHz. The standard variant, on the other hand, has a max CPU speed of 3.3 GHz, and the GPU clocks at 900 MHz. We may see something similar for the "leading version" chip that will be in Nubia's next Z-series phone.
