With a history starting way back in 1889, when Yamauchi Nintendo was founded as a maker of hanafuda playing cards, today's gaming giant simply known as Nintendo since 1963 is one of Japan's most popular brands in this field. Headquartered in Kyoto, it has multiple local subsidiaries, as well as international ones. With over 7,700 employees, it had a net income of $3.156 billion against a revenue of $13.923 billion in 2023. Now, it is finally getting a museum, which is located not far from its HQ, specifically on the southern outskirts of Kyoto, in Uji.

According to Shigeru Miyamoto, Super Mario's creator and Nintendo executive, the museum's goal is to deepen understanding of the company. Speaking to reporters, he said

"If making products while protecting concepts such as family, fun and ease of understanding is rooted in our employees then the new Nintendo will continue to grow."

Sadly, all tickets for the first two months have been sold already, and those interested can enter a draw for the chance to visit in December. To enter a drawing, those who want to visit the museum need a free Nintendo account first, and the purchase can be completed only after being selected in a drawing. The workshop visitors must pay a separate fee, and, in this case, same-day reservations are in place. The deadline for the December drawings is September 30th.

While showcasing both iconic devices such as the Game Boy handheld or the Wii console, the Nintendo museum also has far less popular products on display, including pieces of hardware such as the Mamaberica baby stroller or the Copilas printer. The hands-on experiences provided include the ability to play Super Mario Bros. on a single, oversized Family Computer controller.
