After a successful debut in China, Tesla has brought one of the cheapest and most effective ways to make a flashy statement - car door puddle lights - to the US as well.
At just $65, the new Model 3 and Model Y Projection Lights are priced to succeed, considering the tags on other Tesla accessories. They are easy to install by prying off the current driver and passenger car door lights, then pushing in the $65 duo.
While a 4-pack of such Model Y projection lights is half that price on Amazon, it is a third-party solution, and Tesla's official puddle lights project a high-definition logo on the ground when the doors are open.
The "Model Y Projection Lights present a high-definition Tesla wordmark onto the ground every time you open the door of your Model Y," informs the automaker in the accessory description.
The set consists of two projection lights sized to replace the current not-so-cool door lights of the Model 3 and Model Y. The old ones can be pried out with a flathead screwdriver, and the new puddle lights slotted in after attaching the existing cable connector.
Tesla already sells an ambient light retrofit for the Model Y in China, and those would go well with the new Projection Lights accessory as well. The 256-colorRGB retrofitis just $180 there, too, but it is fitted on the textile dash of the light 2023 Model Y facelift there, so the wood grain dashboard has to be replaced.
No such action is necessary for the new official Model Y Projection Lights, which simply replace the existing set at the driver and passenger door bottoms.
