RetroHandhelds has discovered a new and rather bizarre-looking retro gaming handheld being sold on AliExpress. While the Kinkhank K36 is run-of-the-mill in many areas, its rear design could help separate it from its peers. AsRetroHandheldsnotes, although Kinhank is a relatively unknown name, it has been producing retro gaming handhelds for years now.
Specifically, Kinhank has equipped the K36 with Rockchip's RK3326 chipset and 1 GB of LPDDR4 RAM. Thus, it has the potential to perform as well as the R36S, Powkiddy RGB20S or the MagicX XU10 (curr. $59.99 on Amazon). Additionally, the Kinhank K36 finds itself with a 3,500 mAh battery and a 3.5-inch LCD that outputs at 640 x 480 pixels, much like many of its peers.
However, Kinhank has also included an aggressively curved rear panel that few other 3.5-inch gaming handhelds feature. Setting aside apparently obvious comparisons, the curved areas have been designed to improve ergonomics. With that being said, it seems one's mileage will vary depending on hand size. It is also worth noting that the Kinhank K36 runs EmuELEC out of the box that Kinhank's developers have customised to resemble ArkOS.
As such, performance could improve over time if community developers port or create custom firmware for the device. Currently, the Kinhank K36 is available for $41.71through AliExpress, including shipping. For reference, the device is sold in grey, purple and black colours, the latter two of which also have translucent finishes.
