Jabra is expanding its range of completely wireless earbuds with the Jabra Elite 8 Active Gen 2, which are also intended for use during sports, as the manufacturer claims they are dust and waterproof according to IP68 standards. The charging case also has IP54 certification. In addition, resistance to salt water is advertised, which is not included in the IP68 certification. The Jabra Elite 8 Active Gen 2 also reportedly meet the requirements of MIL-STD-810H.
Data transmission takes place via Bluetooth 5.3 and players can be connected to the smart case in the classic way via USB-C and a 3.5 mm jack connection. This means that it can be used with various devices without a Bluetooth module, such as fitness equipment. The LC3 codec is supported. Bluetooth multipoint and simultaneous connection with two devices is possible, and pairing with up to ten devices is possible.
Six microphones are on board, and active suppression of ambient noise is supported. With ANC activated, the battery life of the headphones themselves is said to be up to 8 hours; with intermediate charges, this goes up to 32 hours. A five-minute charge is said to allow for an additional one hour of runtime. The microphones are not only used for the ANC function, but are also intended for high-quality conversations to be held in unfavorable conditions such as strong winds. Lastly, extensive configuration can be carried out using the Jabra Sound application.
The Jabra Elite 8 Active Gen 2 will be available from mid-June at an RRP of $230.
