Recently, a Reddit user by the name of Gerodot01 shared his narrative on the famous subreddit r/iPhone regarding the underwater durability of his iPhone 15 Pro. According to Gerodot01, his iPhone 15 Pro endured a whopping 22 hours underwater at a depth of 2.5 meters in a freshwater river. After being retrieved and dried, the iPhone 15 Pro continued to function normally without any noticeable damage of any kind.
His post on Reddit detailed how the phone, which had been submerged for almost an entire day, was unsurprisingly discharged when he first recovered it. After a period of drying, the device powered on without any issues and functioned nearly perfectly. Well, except for the speakers which initially indicated some issues, but soon returned to normal after drying out eventually.
The iPhone 15 Pro is advertised by Apple with an IP68 rating under the IEC standard 60529. What this means, is that the smartphone has been designed to withstand submersion in water up to a depth of 6 meters, for a duration of up to 30 mins. Clearly, Gerodot01's experience far exceeded the standard conditions specified by Apple, as portrayed by his real-world experience. However, users are still encouraged to practice caution when using their device since individual experiences can vary vastly, and not everyone might turn out to be as lucky as Gerodot01 in this regard.
