Intel Arrow Lake vs Ryzen 9000X3D could be tough battle for Intel as expected IPC uplift leaks

Intel has been playing catch up to AMD in the gaming performance space ever since the launch of the Ryzen 7 5800X3D in 2022. AMD maintains this lead with the Ryzen 7 7800X3D and Intel has so far been unable to compete directly with the Ryzen X3D CPUs.

With the launch of the Arrow Lake Core Ultra 200 CPUs slated for October, Intel fans are hoping the company could finally close this gap. However, according to information provided by Moore’s Law Is Dead, that might not be the case.

According to a conversation the leaker had with an Intel source, it appears that Intel Arrow Lake might not be enough to dethrone the Ryzen X3D chips in gaming. The source alleged that although “Arrow Lake is turning out a bit better than I expected”, they don’t see the Core Ultra 200 CPUs beating the Ryzen 7 9800X3D “by any notable margin, or really at all”. So, even after the purported single-core gain for the Arrow Lake CPUs, Intel could face an uphill battle against the Ryzen 9000X3D processors.

Moving on, the source also suggested that Intel is planning to announce a healthy “15% IPC increase” for Arrow Lake. However, this gain reportedly won’t result in a 15% uplift in gaming performance.

Arrow Lake’s gaming performance could be hampered further through a clock speed decrease as alleged by MLID’s source. This confirms a previous report from OneRaichu where the leaker suggested a 5.7 GHz P-core boost clock for Arrow Lake.

Before we take our leave, we must mention that the information presented here is from a single, anonymous source. So, the report should be taken with a healthy dose of skepticism, especially since we are talking about two unreleased product lines.
