As mentioned in the 09.04 update, Gemini Advance subscribers can access Gemini Live on their mobile devices. Unlike previous updates, Gemini Live is currently unavailable on the Gemini web app, Gemini for Google messages, and on the iPhone's Google app. Further limitations come with the release only being available to personal Google accounts, excluding work and school profiles. Additionally, Gemini Live is restricted to English, with additional language support on the way. Google's newly introduced Gems are also not compatible with this release of Gemini Live.

Users need only the Gemini mobile app or Gemini as their mobile assistant for qualifying Android phones and tablets to get started. With Gemini Live, users can start and stop conversations with the AI assistant using only their voice. Gemini Live will adapt to the user's conversation style and give users relevant information based on known topics of interest. Gemini Live can also run in the background or on the user's lock screen. However, users may be more interested in changing the voice of the AI assistant as this was a common complaint for users coming from the old Google assistant. Gemini now has ten new voices available, with the user-selected voice used when Gemini gives audible responses or when Gemini Live is activated.

Currently, Gemini Live is more of a novelty, but Google is working to bring additional functionality in the form of extensions for Gemini. Google's latest extension has been the integration of OpenStax to offer educational textbook information to Gemini users. Other extensions to look forward to include Keep, Tasks, and Google Calendar integration. Users can find more information on Gemini and future plans on the official announcement page.
