Elegoo is launching a new resin 3D printer, the Mars 5 Ultra, as the successor to the Mars 4 Ultra. This type of technology usually produces very fine details particularly convincingly, but the handling of resin is not without its challenges: accordingly, a mask and gloves are included and are also strongly recommended. The 3D printer does not come with its own air filter, but an air filter with activated carbon, namely the Elegoo Mars Mate, can be installed.

The printer itself measures 260 x 268 x 451.5 millimeters, but the print volume is, as usual, significantly smaller. According to the manufacturer, models measuring 153.36 x 77.76 x 165 millimeters can be produced. The layer thickness is specified as between 0.01 and 0.2 millimeters, while the screen used for curing has a resolution of 8520 x 4320. The manufacturer puts the Z-axis accuracy at 0.02 millimeters. A maximum printing speed of 150 millimeters is specified, although this refers to the height generated per hour when a job is in process.

As is standard with high-quality 3D printers, leveling takes place automatically. The printing process can be monitored with the help of a camera, along with the use of AI, which can detect warping and other shortcomings that are not immediately visible to the naked eye. The printing of a model can be recorded on video, allowing time-lapse recordings to be made. Even beginners should be able to produce quality prints with ease, as control is not only possible via the four-inch touchscreen, but also via USB and WiFi. According to the manufacturer, the system is protected against power cuts and overheating. Lastly, users are informed when resin levels are low and have been used up.

The 3D printer can be pre-ordered directly from the manufacturer for a price of $270 in the US, with delivery scheduled to begin on September 3. The model is also available in Europe, the UK, Canada, Australia and Japan. In all cases, shipping is free.
