Cambridge Audio Evo One packs 14 drivers and 700 watts of bass into streaming speakers

The Cambridge Audio Evo One is marketed as a proper all-in-one solution, which is hardly surprising given its range of functions. HDMI eARC allows the speaker to replace a soundbar in principle, while Toslink and RCA can be used to connect additional analog and digital sources, and a hard disk can be connected via USB-A in order to play locally stored music. An integrated phono preamplifier allows record players to be connected directly.

The Evo One can be integrated into the network via WiFi 5 and Ethernet in order to access streaming services such as Spotify, Tidal, Qobuz or Amazon Music via Streammagic Gen 4 and the corresponding smartphone app. AirPlay 2 allows music to be transmitted wirelessly from an iPhone or Mac to the speaker, and both Google Cast and Bluetooth 5.1 are available for Android devices. The Evo One can also be integrated into a Roon system.

The 14.5 kilogram speaker has a relatively simple design with a wooden top and the housing measures 67.5 x 29 x 12.9 centimeters. A 6.8-inch IPS panel can be found on the front, although this is not a touchscreen. Instead, the panel is operated via a few buttons under the screen, a remote control or the smartphone app. The highlight of the equipment, however, are the speakers.

The Cambridge Audio Evo One has four 25 millimeter tweeters, four 57 millimeter mid-range drivers and six 70 millimeter woofers. All 14 drivers are equipped with a dedicated 50 watt class D amplifier, resulting in a total output power of 700 watts. This setup allows Cambridge Audio to reproduce frequencies down to 32 Hz, even without an additional subwoofer. The sound can be adjusted to the respective room, and the app also offers an equalizer.

Prices and availability

The Cambridge Audio Evo One streaming speaker will soon be available from specialist retailers at a recommended retail price of $1,499. More information on the features can be found on the official product page.
