Apple's next-generation iPhones are right around the corner. While the company has not shared the date of a new launch event yet, all signs appear to point to a September release, just like last year's iPhone 15 series. Incidentally, footage of dummy iPhone 16 units continues to leak online, most recently in a comparison video with the current iPhone 15 (curr. $699 on Amazon).

According to Mark Gurman, this year's iPhones will effectively maintain the status quo rather than introduce any significant changes. Although this is in line with recent leaks, the analyst adds that Apple intends to focus heavily on Apple Intelligence, its new AI features that will require at least an A18 chipset and 8 GB of RAM. Added to that, Apple will offer the Action button across all flagship iPhones this time around.

Conversely, Gurman asserts that the new camera control 'capture' button will only be available on Pro models, which contradicts with previous leaks and rumours. Moreover, Gurman believes this lack of generational changes will prevent any prospect of increased iPhone sales throughout late 2024 and early 2025. However, the analyst asserts that substantial shifts in Apple's product line-up will occur from next year with the release of two new models.

Specifically, Gurman claims that a new iPhone SE is on the way with a design that could make it look like the iPhone 14. Allegedly due in early 2025, the iPhone SE 4 should feature an OLED display and Apple Intelligence support. Furthermore, Gurman has reiterated earlier reports that Apple is working toward delivering a slimmer iPhone 'Air' in time for its iPhone 17 series release. Likely replacing the current 'Plus' model, the iPhone 17 Air is expected to land with a 5 mm thick housing, an A19 chipset and a 6.6-inch display, as well as a high starting price.
