AMD's Ryzen 9 9950X won't be available to purchase until August 15. Despite that, pre-production samples of the processor have been tested extensively. It even traded blows with the Apple M4 in Geekbench's single-core tests. Now, it has earned another accolade by defeating its predecessor's Cinebench R23 score.

A Bilibili user (via @momomo_us) managed to push AMD's flagship Ryzen 9 9950X to 6.5 GHz with liquid nitrogen. As a result, it managed to score 55,327 points in Cinebench R23's multi-core test. In comparison, the Ryzen 9 7950X scored 50,843 points at 6.7 GHz. Plus, we have to bear in mind the Zen 5 sample is not final, potentially allowing extreme overclockers to push it even further.

Previously, another user tested the Ryzen 9 9950X in Cinebench R23 and found it could score 48,011 points in Cinebench R23 with maximum power. This, of course, will require some serious cooling but those who have it will be able to extract remarkably more performance out of their CPU. We can expect to see a lot more Zen 5 topping benchmark charts in the coming weeks, given Intel's Arrow Lake equivalent is unlikely to drop anytime soon.
