AMD postponed the launch of its Zen 5-based Ryzen 9000 series desktop processors from July 31 to August. One rumour speculates it was due to a typo on the packaging, while others say the chips needed some more last-minute tuning. The company was tight-lipped about their prices and has finally revealed them today.
As predicted earlier, you will be able to buy the AMD Ryzen 5 9500X and Ryzen 8 9700X on August 8. The Ryzen 9 9900X and Ryzen 9 9950X can be purchased on August 15. Check with your local retailers for more information. While the $150 price gap between the Ryzen 9 SKUs might seem a bit high, it may be worth it given the Ryzen 9 9950X's added core count and TDP. Plus, it makes room for an X3D SKU to fit in nicely.
These prices effectively debunk an earlier leak which said the Ryzen 9000 series would start at $500. Pre-launch samples of the Ryzen 9 9950X, Ryzen 9 9900X, Ryzen 9 9700X and Ryzen 5 9600X have all exhibited a decent performance uplift over their Zen 4 counterparts. Whether or not they'll be take on Intel's Arrow Lake desktop chips remain to be seen.
