How to Specify a Specific Java Version for Maven When Multiple Versions Are Installed?

Specifying Java Version for Maven

Problem:

You have multiple Java versions installed on your system and need to configure Maven to use a specific version (e.g., 1.7). However, Maven is currently utilizing an incorrect Java version (e.g., 1.6) despite the JAVA_HOME parameter.

Solution 1: Temporary Java Version Setting

To temporarily set the Java version for Maven, follow these steps before invoking Maven:

set JAVA_HOME="C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0"
mvn ...

Once Maven has completed execution, you can revert the JAVA_HOME setting.

Solution 2: Permanent Java Version Customization

To permanently configure Maven to use Java 1.7, edit your Maven configuration file (e.g., mvn.sh or mvn.bat for Windows):

# Windows
mvn.cmd

#Non-Windows
mvn.sh

Within the configuration file, locate theJAVA_HOME parameter and set it to the desired Java version path:

JAVA_HOME="C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0"

Save the changes to the configuration file and restart Maven to enforce the new setting.
