Anbernic has released many retro gaming handhelds of late, many of which with 3.5-inch displays. However, the company has recently expanded its portfolio with the 2.8-inch RG28XX, as well as the 4-inch RG Cube. Now, early details about another 4-inch model have emerged online, principally courtesy of a post on Chinese social media website BiliBili.
Please note that few specifics are known yet about the device, which Anbernic will supposedly sell as the RG40XX. With that being said, Anbernic's favoured naming scheme means that we can infer the RG40XX has a 4-inch display, albeit not the 1:1 panel inside the RG Cube. Instead, the RG40XX is said to feature the same display that Anbernic uses in the RG405M (curr. $189.99 on Amazon), an IPS panel that outputs at 640 x 480 pixels.
Additionally, the RG40XX is expected to utilise the same Allwinner H700 chipset as recent RG35XX releases like the RG35XX 2024 and RG35XX SP. Thus, the RG40XX will run Anbernic's Linux fork like the RG35XX series, not Android like the RG Cube. Still, the RG40XX resembles the latter device, complete with RGB-backlit joysticks. Although more details are unknown for now, it appears that Anbernic is working to offer the RG40XX in multiple colour options, as is often the case with its retro gaming handheld releases.
