How research works in Ara History Untold

Ara: History Untold is played through three Acts, which are composed of four different Ages. For a Nation to advance into the next Age, they must research four of the Technologies of the current Age, then a specific Technology called the “Age Catalyst.”

Upon researching the “Age Catalyst,” that Nation will proceed to the next Age, unlocking that group of Technologies, but leaving behind any unresearched Technologies from the Age they’re leaving.

Don’t worry about any Technologies that you leave behind, as more complex Technologies will either offer improvements upon older Technologies, or will include items, improvements, or goods from previous Technologies.

You can avoid researching the Age Catalyst to remain in your current Age and grab any other Technologies you want, although it can be detrimental to stay a step behind the other Nations permanently.

When three players have advanced enough into the next Act, the Nations with the lowest Prestige will be “culled,” which removes them from the game. Make sure you’re gaining Prestige just as quick as you’re researching!

Each Technology has a Research Value, which goes over how many points are needed to complete it. Every Nation has a “Research” stat (in the top right of the screen) that determines how much Research can be achieved per turn. The higher your Research, the quicker you can breeze through researching Technologies.

So if you want to research Technologies quicker, increase your Research through building Improvements, employing Paragons, increasing the Knowledge Quality of Life in your Cities, or by any other means.

Best research for Act 1 in Ara History Untold

Act 1 has a lot of leeway in Ara: History Untold, as the Technologies you may miss out here aren’t too detrimental as you can likely unlock their contents through future Technologies anyway. However, starting the game in a strong manner will allow you to keep a competitive edge that will follow you into the rest of the game.

For each Era in Act 1, you must unlock four Technologies before you can unlock the Era Catalyst.

Congratulations, for you have survived the harsh cradle of Act 1 in Ara: History Untold, and have graduated to Act 2! This is where things get more complicated, as the paths you picked in Act 1 will determine the paths you can travel down in Act 2.

Once again, these are only the recommended order of Technologies. Should your game take unique turns, you may need to go against this advice if you are confident in your strategy.
