Upgrades can give you a handy boost if you’re struggling in a new area or with a new Danger Level. If you want to stop dragging your team down in Ventures, let me show you how to upgrade and dismantle your weapons and gear in Towerborne.
You can upgrade your equipment at the Forge in the Belfry (pictured above). Select the item you wish to upgrade from the Weapons or Gear Tab and press A (Space on Keyboard).
The service costs Spirit Dust, which you can obtain by completing missions and dismantling equipment. The latter generates far more, so it’s always worth ditching your redundant gear.
Item rarity determines how many times you can upgrade it. For example, the rare armor in the image above can be upgraded twice.
Upgrading an item increases its level and base values while stats, like Poison DMG, remain unchanged.
You can dismantle Aspects and Equipment at the Forge, which is the best way to obtain Spirit Dust. I find menus are a little clunky, so the best way to mass-dismantle gear is to use the “Mark Mode” function.
Press the Right Stick in (C on Keyboard) to use Mark Mode. You can use the function to mark any unwanted items with the Y button (R on Keyboard). Exit Mark Mode with B (ESC on Keyboard), then press X (F on Keyboard) to Bulk Dismantle.
There’s little point in keeping low-level gear during the early game, as you’ll frequently find better loot through regular gameplay.
It’s tempting to upgrade gear for a boost, but it’s not always worth it. Gear levels are important, and it’s not worth spending materials on upgrades if you can find higher-level equipment during missions.
This is doubly true if you unlock a new Danger Level. Higher Danger Levels yield much stronger gear. For example, most gear you can find at Danger Level 1 is around Level 4. It can shoot up to Level 17 at Danger Level 2.
If you find an incredible stat roll, feel free to spend your Spirit Dust, but it may not be worth it for long.
Towerborne is in Early Access which means things will likely change in the future. If you want to try some other titles before their official release, there are some fantastic early-access games on Steam to pick from.
