``Blue Prince'' follows the role of the main character
Simon
, the sole inheritor of the legacy of his millionaire great-uncle, who finds the ``46th room'' in the huge Sinclair mansion on Mount Holly, which he has never been to. It is a first-person perspective puzzle adventure game whose purpose is
.
In the first room after entering the mansion, there is a blueprint
(blueprint), and beyond the doors on three sides are a bedroom, a storage room, a kitchen, a hallway, a library, and a dark room. Three room types are displayed at random from multiple room types. From there, write down on the blueprint what room is in front of the door. In this way, draw one room in each 9x6 square of the blueprint, and by reaching the 45th chamber from the 1st entry hole, the secret in the 46th room designated by your great-uncle will be revealed. .

Inside the room are
``keys''
to open doors,
``crystals''
to enter specific rooms, and ``coins'' to purchase items. There is
, and players fill out the room while thinking about what they need. Additionally, each room has a different door orientation, and some rooms don't even have doors, so you have to think about how to avoid getting stuck in a dead end.
Moreover, some rooms contain letters from guests who have visited the Sinclair mansion in the past, and there are also small puzzles, so each player can end up with a completely different mansion design. .
According to developer Tonda Ros | , the people who have played the demo so far have been told that some people prioritize getting to the 46th room, and others that understand the background of the story. There are three types of people: those who search for letters and other materials to read, and those who try to create a floor plan of their own liking. He said that he wanted to create a game that could accommodate any of these.
However, the difficult part is that one playthrough is basically limited to
"50 steps"
. Each time you enter a room, one step is counted, so if you go back and forth to each room many times, the number of steps will decrease. These steps can also be obtained in the same way as keys and coins, but if you run out of steps, it will be game over and the day will end. The next day, the previous day's floor plan will be gone and you will have to start over from scratch.
According to Ross, the development of ``Blue Prince'' is nearing its final stage, and they are spending time finishing the puzzles in the latter half of the game, while also tuning up the graphics. Mr. Ross said, ``Don't forget that there is an outdoor part of the mansion,'' and that at GDC 2024 (related article) you could explore the garden area, and this time you could put coins in the fountain in front of the mansion. He was emphasizing that he was able to do something meaningful, such as throwing a ball. |
