Steps to Draw a (Red) Box Around Text in the Snipping Tool

Step 1: Open the screenshot or any other picture in the Snipping Tool.

Step 2: Click on the Shapes icon (square with a circle at the back).

Step 3: Select the Rectangle shape and click on the Fill tool. Select the None option (the first one, i.e., a circle with a bar).

Step 4: Now, click on Outline and select the Red color. Also, move the opacity slider to the extreme right. If you want to change the size of the red box, use the Size slider.

Step 5: Now, hold the mouse button and drag it around the text in the picture to create a rectangle. Before performing any other action on the image, you can resize, rotate, or move the red box. If you click outside the red box, you can’t move or resize it.

A Few Tips for Using the Snipping Tool:

  • The pictures you edit in the Snipping Tool are automatically copied to your clipboard even without saving them.
  • Click on the three-dot icon, followed by Visual Search with Bing, to find similar images or to extract text from the picture.
  • The Snipping Tool can automatically blur sensitive information like an email or phone number and copy text from pictures using the Text Actions tool. Its icon is in the toolbar, with three lines inside a dotted square box.  
  • Click on the Video icon in the Snipping Tool to start screen recording.
