Configuring Maven to Use a Specific Java Version
Maven relies on the JAVA_HOME environment variable to determine the Java version it should utilize. However, in situations where multiple Java versions are installed, it is necessary to explicitly specify the preferred version for Maven.
To set a specific Java version (e.g., Java 1.7) for Maven:
Method 1: Override JAVA_HOME Environment Variable
- Before executing Maven, temporarily set the JAVA_HOME environment variable to the path of the desired Java version (e.g., export JAVA_HOME=/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/jdk1.7.0_80.jdk/Contents/Home).
- After completing Maven tasks, revert the JAVA_HOME variable to its original value.
Method 2: Edit Maven Script
- Locate the Maven script (mvn/mvn.bat/mvn.cmd) in the Maven installation directory.
- Open the script in a text editor.
- Search for the line that specifies the JAVA_HOME variable.
- Change the path to the desired Java version (e.g., MAVEN_OPTS="-Xms256m -Xmx512m -XX:MaxPermSize=256m -Djava.version=1.7").
