Throughout your time diving underwater and serving meals in this indie game, you’ll eventually come across a side quest that asks you to find Agar in Dave the Diver.
Specifically, the “Red Ecological Data” quest will ask that Dave find two Red Starfish and two Agar. You may be stuck on this quest like I was, so let me help you out.
Once you know where to find Agar in Dave the Diver, you’ll be kicking yourself for missing it in the first place. The Agar is located south of the boat and can appear anywhere between 0-50 meters down.
If you check your tasks, you’ll notice that Agar is a plant. My first mistake was thinking Agar was a type of fish until I noticed you can see pictures of the item you’re searching for.
As soon as you get into the Blue Hole, dive straight down. Agar looks like a sprig of red seaweed (pictured above). Fish and plant spawns are random in Dave the Diver but keep swimming at the appropriate depth, and you’ll find it.
To collect the Agar, cut it with your melee weapon. Agar should respawn between dives, so you can quickly collect as much as you need.
Once you find those, you shouldn’t have any trouble finding them in the future. Good thing, too, because you’ll need to find five Agar again for your “Ecology Research,” and it’s required for some recipes.
You’ll likely stumble across some weapons at this depth. Make sure you learn how to upgrade them, as there are some intimidating beasties in the depths.
Agar is an ingredient in several dishes at the Sushi Bar. Recipes that require multiple ingredients tend to yield a decent profit, even if they are more of a hassle. Once you’re used to diving into deeper waters, spending precious time in the shallows can be a drag. Still, it could be worth it.
Remember, you can always check the menu in the Sushi Bar to see what ingredients you need. Scroll down the list to see multi-item recipes. The menu handily notes the depth in which you can find each ingredient, so it’s an excellent research tool.
If you can’t get enough of Dave the Diver (I don’t blame you!), make sure you check out the Dredge crossover DLC. The unlock requirements are a little obtuse, but it’s well worth it.
